Welcome to the QPOC WIki. It's still kind of underused so any contributions are apprecciated. We sohuld have the page up to date by the end of week 1 with accurate office hours and meeting times.

I’m the other in my family. My brother and sister fell straight from the white family tree. Me on the other hand, I look just like my Peruvian grandmother whose brown skin everyone wants to forget. This difference separated me from my twin from the moment we were born. My father hated me for it. He didn’t need a reminder of his wife’s non-whiteness. He wanted his white seed to extinguish the heritage in my mother’s womb. I was and will always be a slap in the face to my father. For this I was punished. My sister cries now thinking of the beatings. I took from my father. He hit us all but they know I got it worse by far. I have little access to these memories, yet the pain I see in their eyes reinforces the truth of them. I will always be my daddy’s little Incan punching bag. Although I cannot access a specific memory as evidence, I know I was “the Incan baby” the other. I don’t talk about being Peruvian too much because of the way it feels to be so visibly different from my siblings, and for the hatred I received because of it. I am often told that I should talk about being a person of color more because it’s important. It’s still so hard for me to do. How can I separate the pride I feel in being Peruvian/Incan from the memories of the beatings? From the differences in how I was treated. I was treated as less than because I look more Peruvian that my siblings. I got less ford, fewer nice things, less attention. My needs were swept away and described as me just trying to get attention.

The term Two-Spirit has a number of different meanings in different contexts. In general it is a contemporary phrase used by aboriginal folks coming from a variety of sexual orientations and gender expressions often considered queer in a US context.
Identifying as Two-Spirit is often chosen as a way to resist colonial definitions of Native cultural roles.

1. (Derogatory, slang) A homosexual; a person who appears homosexual, or a person who has homosexual qualities.
2. (slang) A person of non-heterosexual orientation: an asexual, bisexual, homosexual, transsexual, transgender, or questioning person.

[I figured we should have at least something up for Queer so I stole this from wikitionary]

last quarter someone told me that i was consistantly the white elephant in the room that nobody wanted to talk about. hmmm. rough words to hear, but i've heard worse. as i try to analyze situations like this, i try not to get caught up in the fact that the individual spewing this shit happens to be a straight identifying white male. i try to let these facts go so that i can more objectively evaluate what is going on. the first question is why would i be thought of in this way. Is it because i think it is absolutely necessary to discuss the historical contexts around the texts we are reading and i doing this pointing out the racist, sexist, ablist etc. groups and actions these men are involved in? Is it because i stick up for myself when someone ignores the fragrance-free policy and my tireless pleas and wears chemicals to class anyway? Is is because i talk about my partner? Is it because i'm trans, the faculty announced this and told everyone to respect it, my allies in class corrected people when they refer to me with the same pronouns? Is it because I use a cane? Is it because i talk about being disabled? Is it because I don't live up to the standards of middle-class whiteness and couldn't if i tried? Is it because in spite of these facts I get all my work in, more than can be said for those harassing me? Is it something I'm not aware of? Do all of these things about me fly in the face of all that these kids know and therefore require them to reanalyse their conceptions of reality? Does this scare them? Is it just cuz they think im stupid, or ugly, or naive? Are they afraid of the rage they can see behind my eyes? Can they feel the deep resentment i still harbor for their people, the people who have worked for hundreds of years to enslave, indoctrinate or flat out eliminate my people?

I Jesse G! promise that in the next couple of days I will post a freewrite for the safespace performance that is coming up soon. Anyone who knows me though will realize very quickly that the reason I'm posting my freewrite is a selfish one. I tend to procrastinate and by giving myself a semi-public deadline I hope to pressure myself enough to actually go through with writing something out.

I will be getting my inspiration from gay.com. Oh gay.com with your horrible articles about gay white man travel to "exotic" destinations where ethnic boys throw themselves at you, practically begging you to sleep with them.

I want people to know that I am native and crazy and queer and wear dresses to do dishes and professor costues with a lap blanket while I'm knitting. I want people to know that I've got a fucked up self image because when I look in the mirror I see a white person and to be more blunt about it, the enemy. I want people to know that I'm TwoSpirited and that if they're not Indian they can't be. I want to be free from hearing another white person telling me they're jealous of my family history and the mystical connection to nature I supposedly have. Free from another show and tell of a white persons collection of Native trinkets they own because of their great appreciation of indigenous culture.

I'm tired of going to radical meetings like the ATF and being with "oh awesome I'm glad you're here we needed more white people" and having to decide whether or not it's better self-care for me to let it slide or to gamble having to educate once again if I explain that I'm mixed blood.

I'm tired of being haunted with the inherent rapability of native land, traditions and bodies and the way that has been forcibly marked on my own past.

I don't want to explain "The deal with Indian drinking" or why Cod fishing isn't the real reason for the colonization of turtle island.

I neither know how to do traditional dances or feel like I want to for the education of white folks.

I just want to be recognized and validated once in a while and I refuse to accept that it's too compicated to ask for just because I have more "issues" than one.

If you don't mind letting people know who you are online feel free to add a section just for yourself so peoples stuff is organized together.

If you wanna be anonymous just add a page for your piece.

If just adding a piece go ahead and click add new page over on the menu to the left.

If you're gonna add a section for yourself still hit add new page but makes yourself a little bio and maybe say what kind of feedback you're looking for.

Then save and hit add new page again and it will make a new page in your own section.

While looking at another groups list of "commonly agreed upon definitions" I got the idea for something much more queer. A collaboratively written/edited flexible list of words and how we like to use them. No agreements neccessary, if you don't like something delete it, or even better replace it with something new ;)
